NOWHERE IN NEW YORK WILL A NEIGHBORHOOD MEET THE WATER AS IT WILL AT THE WEST SIDE YARDS
The Related/Goldman Sachs plan will dramatically transform this vast desolate space into a dynamic community that mixes residences with offices, hotels and retail, and vibrant street life – creating the texture and feel of a traditional New York neighborhood. The Related/Goldman Sachs plan for the West Side Yards is not just about erecting tall buildings or bricks and mortar; it is about creating dynamic spaces to be used and enjoyed by residents and workers, and a celebrated destination for visitors from across the City, the region and the world.
Proposal Strengths:
A distinctive New York neighborhood. A mix of architectural styles, characteristic of New York’s skyline, will surround streets lined with shops, restaurants, galleries, arts and culture – in a community that features world-leading sustainability and extensive affordable housing.
A spectacular park destined to be New York’s next great gathering place. With varied park and green spaces for relaxation and enjoyment, the park will unify the varied residential, commercial and retail structures and also link to the Hudson River waterfront, the exciting High Line district and the future Hudson Boulevard Park.
The global headquarters for the world’s most diverse media and entertainment company. NewsCorp Center will ensure that New York City is the twenty-first century media capital and enliven the Yards with movie screenings, presidential debates, NFL pre-game shows, concert series, news tickers and much more.
Significant rail road expertise. The great challenge to development of the West Side Yards is to ensure the complicated construction process does not interfere with 24/7 operations of the Long Island Rail Road, for which these rail yards are essential. Related has experience in the delivery of complex construction strategies and has a performance track record that has been skillfully and creatively executed. Related/Goldman Sachs has assembled a team of engineers with extensive experience in rail road construction and in working with the LIRR ranging from the rail transportation experts at SYSTRA Engineering to the original constructors of the West Side Yards, Skanska.
Related/Goldman Sachs offers a concrete commitment to build. With the commitment of NewsCorp as its anchor tenant and the financial strength of Goldman Sachs and Related, The Related/Goldman Sachs team is committed to proceed immediately – ensuring that the area is expeditiously energized and activated and that the MTA and the City begin receiving revenue immediately.
